The various applications within drive technology pose particular challenges for the manufacturers of drive solutions when it comes to the online availability of detailed product information, design and calculation options and making product-specific data sheets and specifications available in virtually any language.

Situation: Up until 15 years ago, printed catalogues and product leaflets were used exclusively. Since then, more and more customers have been requesting electronic documents. And that led to an exponential increase in the numbers of product-relevant documents required. As the market expanded, so demands for various languages also rose. That resulted in the idea of an electronic catalogue for design/calculations. Initially on CD, later in the Internet as well, and owing to the growing amount of content, on DVD and now also a USB flash drive.

Brief:

• Mapping of a complex product range for low- and high-voltage applications aimed at creating an electronic product catalogue and offer configurator (CPQ):
• Power range: 0.06 kW to 42 MW
• High size variance
• Diverse r.p.m. figures, including switchable pole versions
• Complex mechanical modules
• Mapping of products requiring approval
• Integration of 3D CAD models
• Dynamic generation of data sheets and operating characteristics
• Product-related mapping of approx. 20,000 different types with more than 14 million possible variants
• Approx. 200,000 active products mapped in SAP

Result:

• Electronic product catalogue with integrated product/offer configurator and CAD download
• Basic selection, electrical and constructional selection plus provision of following documents in real-time:
• Data sheets (motor data sheet, electrical data, operating characteristics, terminals diagram)
• Dimensions (dimensions sheet, terminal box drawing, 3D CAD)
• Further documents (operating instructions, safety data sheet, spare parts lists)
• easyKAT-SAP integration (handover of evaluated KMATs on the basis of offer item)
• Configuration in easyKAT with completion of evaluation and transfer back to SAP
• Configuration of materials master sales texts in easyKAT and transfer back to SAP (multi-language)
