PRODUCT CONFIGURATION: USING KNOW-HOW WITH A SYSTEM
Product configuration is a paradigm shift. Instead of copying the "as is", calculations, quotations, CAD models, drawings, parts lists or routings are generated on the basis of order-neutral template and master structures. I.e. by means of a stored logic or several rules these neutral templates are individually customized. This has the advantage that the results are always correct, contain no errors and the time required is reduced by factors.
Therefore, standardization and automation effects are often mentioned as goals of product configuration, whether in sales, project planning, construction, production or service. The aim is also to achieve the associated data consistency between the IT systems from the inquiry to the service.

Since the configuration solutions have to be selected and aligned individually depending on the organizational structure, product, process and IT systems, at the beginning of a configuration project we jointly define the exact objective, alignment and task.

Mature standard configuration solutions already allow orientation from the user's point of view with subsequent configuration and quotation generation on the web or offline - possibly with integrated design and calculation. The customer-specific variant is impressively presented online at runtime as a 3D representation on the web, whether component, machine or entire plant.
WITHOUT DATA BREAKS BETWEEN SALES, DESIGN AND PRODUCTION
Order processing can be based directly on the sales department's quotation data - without interface losses. Depending on the adaptation requirements, preconfigured solutions can still be adapted in the CAD-PDM engineering environment incl. duplicate check, or new articles can be created in the ERP system. This is followed by the conversion of the design BOM or the automated generation of the order BOM and the production drawings.
