IT SYSTEM ARCHITECTURE – ONE-OFFS, COUPLING OR THE WHOLE HOG?
Variant management, process optimisation, product configuration – none of these are successful in the long-term without the use of IT systems.
For example: A product modularisation involves new functional components, new offer structures and offer texts, new prices, new parts and parts lists, new 3D CAD models and circuit diagrams. In order to optimise the process, all the IT systems affected in the company have to work with the new data and must be adapted to suit.
IT ARCHITECTURE FOR THE WHOLE HOG
We see ourselves as process and IT architects. We draw up the plans, retain an overview and understand the relationships – like an architect designing a building, who is familiar with the different trades and the way they interact. We do not sell software nor do we work with any specific software vendors. So we don’t think in terms of systems. At DLP, IT system consultancy is based on the whole process. We consider:
- Enquiry
- Configuration
- Calculations
- Pricing
- Generating proposal drawings
- Generating a layout drawing
- Compiling an offer / printing
- Customer order
- Order confirmation
- Order and production parts lists
- Work schedules
- Production drawings
- Ordering for assembly
- Commissioning
- Service
How well does all that work together?
ON TRIAL: SYSTEM INTEGRATION
When analysing the processes, we examine the existing systems in detail: CPQ, CRM, CAD, DMS, PDM and ERP. And we check the system integration. It is often the case that manufacturers or service providers only think and act in terms of their own systems. Consistency of data across CAD, PDM and ERP, a suitable product structure geared to the process and product data suitable for processing are aspects that are often forgotten. And so ERP integration is almost always one factor in our projects.
YOU DECIDE THE EXTENT TO WHICH WE ADAPT OR RENEW YOUR IT SYSTEMS
In many cases the task is to link existing systems or integrate new applications. So we analyse the processes, define, together with you, the requirements placed on interfaces or system links, search for a solution and a solution partner together with you and configure the link. This is followed by tests, approval and training measures.
Sometimes our clients are simply looking for a single new system – a new PDM system, an offer configurator or a new ERP system. In that case we interview staff in the specialist departments and take into account their exact requirements. Armed with a specification, we can choose a system. The client decides on the extent and duration of the support.
YOU NEED IT ADMINISTRATORS, SYSTEM MAINTENANCE, TRAINING?
We can do that, too. We can process master data files and parts lists, generate CAD models, programme adaptations and compile bespoke training documents. We can manage your CAD, PDM or configuration environment and train your staff in the use of your systems with your data.
