Situation:
The company planned a preliminary specification and selection phase and the actual introduction of a central MultiCAD-capable DMS, PDM and project management (PM) system with the following objectives, among others:

  • Support for both product/sales item development and design as well as equipment design/engineering
  • Support of a MultiCAD connection (SIEMENS NX or I-DEAS, SolidWorks, SolidCAM) as well as a smooth SAP connection (approx. 250 users)
  • Replacement of the sometimes risky, error-prone and redundant way of working with project folders
  • Medium-term replacement of the non-integrated e-mail system
  • Flexible connection and supply of distributed locations as well as controlled connection of the respective local engineering offices and partners on site
  • Bundling of all product and project-related data in a central system, including a standardized approval and change management system

Task:

  • Recording the PDM requirements together with the individual specialist departments during interviews
  • Definition, formulation, supplementation and coordination of a DMS/PDM/PM specification sheet
  • Creation of a rough ROI analysis as a basis for management decision-making
  • Supporting the team during the actual system selection and evaluation process
  • Coordination of the implementation procedure and project planning together with the finally selected partner
  • Support during the DMS/PDM/PM implementation and integration.

Result:

  • Recording and presentation of the DMS, PDM and PM requirements together with the individual specialist departments
  • Joint creation of a robust DMS/PDM/PM specification sheet as the basis for software selection
  • Successful search with selected providers incl. evaluation, pre-selection, recommendation
  • Project planning with the final selected partner regarding conception, prototyping, piloting, etc.
  • Successful implementation and realization together with the selected provider.
