PLM in agricultural machinery manufacturing

With an increasing proportion of electronics and software, agricultural machinery is a high-performance product with high requirements in terms of variant and configuration management as well as the smooth handling of procurement and production/assembly processes at engineering and production sites distributed around the world.

Client:
Claas KGaA
Leading agricultural machinery manufacturer
> 10,000 employees

Industry:
Agricultural machinery construction

Topic:
PDM system introduction, quotation configuration, overall IT concept, product costing, product modularization, product data migration, SAP PLM, parts list organization, distributed product development, parts list configuration, change management, classification, product configuration, variant management

Situation:
Depending on the tractor manufacturer and model, the attachments and add-on parts on the tractor frame can vary greatly in terms of their dimensions and design. This design variance is directly transferred to the required devices and tools.

Task:

  • Sustainable reduction of adaptation efforts and shortening of lead times for the design and adaptation of add-on parts incl. hydraulics/control incl. drawing creation (keyword 3D-CAD, drawing derivation, contract-compliant drawings) or creation/maintenance of the parts list
  • thereby creating scope for the development of innovative customer solutions.

Result:

  • Highly integrated processes with a uniform master and process structure across all products and plants.
  • Complex, customer-specific availability and pre-planning functions, calculation and evaluation.
  • Pricing and marketing based on characteristic values.
  • KMAT series production as JIS in the model mix.
  • Central IT organization worldwide.
  • Standardized, clear and redundancy-free master data and processes throughout the group, with a simultaneous reduction in AV costs.
  • Significant reduction in sales costs through the use of an online store with change management monitor.
