Plastics mechanical engineering

The introduction of an offer configurator is often an opportunity to put the products and their external and internal variance to the test in parallel. On the one hand, application parameters on the customer or application side can often be greatly reduced. On the other hand, there is great potential in integrating the quotation configuration and order processing with the sales order and parts list configuration in the ERP system as well as the CAD-related mapping of ETO processes.

Situation:
Quotation processing was time-consuming and lead times were too long. The quotation texts and machine designs were not always technically up to date and there were several internal solutions for identical tasks on the market. The quotations often had the personal signature of the respective sales employee or designer, which could be seen in the equipment of the machine, the calculation and pricing or the design in CAD including the parts list system.

Task:

  • Recording the product logic together with sales, project planning and design
  • Critical examination of the products to be configured with regard to modularity, configurability and dependency both in the direction of 3D CAD (Pro/Engineer) and in the direction of customer orders/ERP (SAP)
  • Development and introduction of the standardized quotation configurator (camos) for the entire product range
  • Mapping of the logic in the configurator combined with parallel modularization and streamlining of the product range

Result:

  • Documentation of the existing product logic in the heads including the object dependencies required for product configuration
  • Derivation of the product/object structure incl. object dependencies and the class system incl. characteristic structure/characteristics/values/value ranges etc.
  • Drastic reduction of the relevant application parameters to very few parameters for sales and distribution
  • Revised, modularized and configuration-oriented product structures
  • Development of the quotation configurator through to productive use in the sales organization
  • Sustainable reduction in quotation costs and the lead time for preparing quotations by orders of magnitude
  • Manufacturing cost transparency from quotation to post-calculation in the ERP.
