Offer configuration in bakery machine construction

The variance of the customer's end products (e.g. pretzels, croissants, pastries) and the trend towards ever larger and more complex systems are forcing manufacturers of bakery machines and systems to modularize and flexibly standardize their products. This means thinking in terms of applications, processes and functions and configuring neutral components bottom-up to create a customer-specific solution with the help of a system configurator.

Situation:
The quotations were previously created on the basis of MS Word or the ERP system (Infor LN). As there was no neutral modular product system, quotations and parts lists were copied and individually adapted to specific orders. This led to calculation risks as well as error and follow-up costs. At the same time, the product variance increased uncontrollably with each order. This resulted in high adjustment costs in design and growing complexity in procurement, production and assembly.

Task:
Introduction of an offer and product configurator based on the newly defined neutral modular product system. The configuration process should be possible in the first step via the end product (e.g. bread roll, pretzel) and the manufacturing process (e.g. dough rolling). This access, e.g. via bread rolls or croissants and the required sub-processes, means that in future a system will be configured bottom-up from neutral individual machines and components and will no longer be copied and customized "as is" (system configurator).
In the second step, connection of the new ERP system Dynamics NAV, i.e. transfer of the evaluated machines and components from the quotation configurator as the basis for the parts list configuration in Dynamics NAV.
