Industrial filter construction

The challenge is to standardize products flexibly, i.e. to align product structures, internal processes and IT systems in such a way that the external variance in processing no longer hurts. However, this flexibilization is often made more difficult by established type codes, non-configurable parts lists, 3D CAD models that are difficult to adapt or 2D drawings.

Client:
Manufacturer of industrial filters
> 500 employees

Industry sector:
Industrial filter construction

Topic:
Standardization & typing, requirements management, R&D process optimization, manufacturing cost reduction, product costing, product modularization, ROI/cost/benefit analysis, SAP PLM, parts list organization, variant management

Situation:
The market requirements for filter technology are increasing due to the growing variety of applications and media. At the same time, batch sizes and margins are falling as the number of variants increases. Internal processing costs from sales to design, purchasing and production are increasing and lead times are getting longer. Against the backdrop of ambitious growth targets, it is important to counteract this development with suitable measures and enable the planned growth.

Task:

  • Reduce product complexity and parts diversity
  • Increase sales by increasing the MTO share
  • HK reduction and lead time reduction in the double-digit percentage range
  • Review of the product portfolio with regard to market requirements (functionality, pricing, etc.)
  • Examination of working methods (variant management from sales to design to production)
  • Concept/roadmap for achieving the project goals with detailed implementation planning, ROI analysis, prioritization, task planning, etc.

Result:

  • Transparent presentation of weak points and potential (product / variant technology, organization / processes, data and IT systems) for management
  • Coordinated procedure for achieving the set goals/roadmap/phase plan
  • Task plan as the basis for the continuous implementation of the defined task packages
  • Project-accompanying target/actual controlling of the set project goals.
