3D CAD optimization in industrial tent construction

A leading manufacturer of industrial tents wants to roll out its 3D CAD system Inventor. However, the internal resistance in the design department is too great. The 2D CAD system AutoCAD Mechanical is still in use and the management is increasingly pushing towards a 3D world.

Situation:

On the one hand, the current CAD performance or the long loading times during daily work are not acceptable despite modern hardware equipment. On the other hand, it is sometimes very time-consuming to carry out daily adjustments and special designs in the event of an order.

Task:

  • Analysis of the current 3D CAD Inventor environment
  • Development of practical proposals for CAD optimization
  • Creation of the entire tent assembly as a performance-optimized 3D CAD Inventor model
  • Consideration of a possible extension in the direction of CAD automation or CAD configuration / design automation

Result:

  • Performance improvement of the 3D CAD environment through standardization of the assemblies
  • Creation of a basis for generative applications
  • Creation of an order-specific hall plan using iLogic programming; this is populated with standardized assemblies
  • Simplification, acceleration and standardization of the handling processes
