breakbulk ship simulation

breakbulk ship simulation

A shipping company with global operations and more than 100 multi-purpose, heavy cargo and container ships, one of the world market leaders in the heavy and project cargoes sector. The challenge for engineering these days is to simulate the interaction between cargo, ship and the cranes available at the earliest possible stage and to identify potential issues affecting loading/unloading or possible collisions in advance.

Client:
Shipping company
> 300 employees

Branch: Shipping, logistics, transport

Topic: 3D CAD simulation of various loading situations

Situation:

Most vessel data (hull, deck, etc.), likewise crane data or CAD data of the cargo, are only available in the form of 2D drawings. Collision checks are therefore two-dimensional for the most part. Any collisions or critical loading situations that are not identified can lead to problems in the port, expensive laytimes and postponements.

Brief:

  • Simulation of specific deck and port/pier situations
  • Simulation of reduced cranes, especially kinematics and outer contours
  • Setting up the simulation, collision checks in Autodesk Inventor

Result:

  • Support for engineering within the scope of acquiring new transport orders
  • Avoidance of critical loading situations in ports
  • Better security when committing to loading/unloading times
  • Easy switching of cargoes
  • System parameters easily transferred to new basic models (ships, cranes and cargoes)
  • Tool is intuitive and easy to use
  • Solution fully integrated in Autodesk Inventor
